DWG PLT-01 · PALLET DIMENSIONER

Pallet dimensioners for freight that bills by volume

Palletised freight is priced on volume as much as on weight — and it is the freight most often re-measured and re-billed by carriers. A Goodscan pallet dimensioner captures a loaded pallet's dimensions and weight in one stop at your dock, before the carrier's number becomes the invoice.

01Why pallet dimensioning pays for itself

LTL and pallet-network carriers audit freight aggressively. When their dimensioner finds a pallet 10 cm taller than declared, the shipment is re-classed, re-priced and often surcharged — and the shipper has no record of their own to argue with. A pallet dimensioner at the outbound dock closes that gap: every pallet leaves with your measured dimensions and weight on file, matched to its shipment paperwork.

The same record earns money in two other places. Load planning stops guessing: planners see true pallet volumes before the vehicle is booked. And customer billing becomes defensible when you re-charge freight by measured volume instead of by estimate.

02The GS300 series

Three models cover the pallet measuring points in the current line-up. All three use overhead 3D vision to capture the load's bounding box while the pallet sits on the weighing base — no wrapping the load in measuring frames, no manual tape work.

Full specification sheets for the GS300 series are issued with quotations, matched to the pallet sizes and weights in your profile. 03How a pallet measuring stop works

The forklift sets the loaded pallet on the scale base inside the measuring frame and backs out. The vision rig captures the load from above and the sides and reconstructs the smallest bounding box — length, width and height of the load as it actually sits, including lean and overhang. The scale records the gross weight in the same stop. The operator confirms the shipment reference, and the record is stored and passed to your shipping documentation.

Irregular freight is exactly what the system is for: mixed cartons, drums and crated machinery rarely form a tidy cube, and the bounding box the carrier will bill on is the one the vision rig measures — not the tidy number a tape measure produces on the longest carton.

04Where pallet dimensioners sit in the flow

Outbound docks are the classic position — measure, weigh, label, load. Inbound receiving uses the same stop to verify supplier pallets against advance notices before put-away. 3PL operators run a pallet dimensioner as a revenue station, billing storage and handling by measured volume. If your freight flow continues into a parcel operation, the freight dimensioner page covers the wider freight range including the GS400 truck system, and the pallet measuring system page details the GS300Pro and GS300Min configurations.

FAQQuestions buyers ask

Can it measure a pallet without unwrapping or restacking?
Yes. The vision rig measures the load as it sits on the scale base — wrapped, strapped or crated. The bounding box includes overhang and lean, which is what carriers bill on.
What about very tall or oversize loads?
The GS300Max has the largest envelope in the series; a third-party article reports it measuring up to 250 x 250 x 300 cm. Send us your largest pallet profile and we confirm the right frame before quoting.
Does it replace our floor scale?
The pallet sits on a weighing base as part of the measuring stop, so dimensions and weight come from one placement. Existing scales can stay in service elsewhere on the dock.
