01How in-motion dimensioning works
The parcel arrives single file, gapped, on the conveyor — that spacing, delivered by a singulator upstream, is the precondition everything else depends on. Crossing the measuring zone, the parcel passes the dimensioning array: the GM210Pro measures with a light curtain, building the profile from interrupted beams; the GS210M measures with 3D vision, capturing the parcel's shape from camera views. Both produce the same output — length, width, height, volume.
Weight comes from a dynamic weigh section: a short belt section on load cells that weighs the parcel as it crosses, synchronised so the weight belongs to the same parcel the cameras just measured. The barcode is read in the same pass — top read, or by a scanning tunnel where labels land on any face. The machine merges the three captures into one record and hands it downstream: to the sorter for routing, and to storage for billing and audit.
02The dynamic models
Dynamic DWS models in the Goodscan range
| Model | Measuring principle | Position in the range |
|---|---|---|
| GM210 | Dynamic DWS (in-motion dimensioning, weighing and scanning) | The core dynamic machine for belt-fed parcel flows |
| GM210Pro | Full-dynamic DWS with light-curtain dimensioning | Light-curtain profiling for regular, high-speed carton streams |
| GS210M | Full-dynamic DWS with 3D vision dimensioning | Vision capture for mixed and irregular parcel shapes |
| GS210GP | Semi-dynamic vision DWS | The bridge form: vision measurement with a lighter mechanical footprint than a full dynamic line |
03Where dynamic DWS is specified
Dynamic DWS is the measuring core of automated dimensioning: express hubs measuring every parcel before sortation, e-commerce fulfilment lines where billable weight decides the carrier service bought, and 3PL operations billing clients from induction records. It is also the upgrade path from static benches — when the parcel profile data from a static DWS shows volume outgrowing operator-paced measurement, the dynamic machine takes over the same record format at line speed.
Case evidence on the manufacturer's own site describes a GM210 installation reporting dimension-measurement accuracy of 1 mm in a customer case headline; we cite that as the company's case claim rather than a guaranteed specification — the accuracy figure for your parcels is set during configuration and acceptance testing with your parcel mix.
